“Italian Bar Dancer” Google Search Results Shows Sonia Gandhi

Just a couple of days ago, Arnab Goswami, co-founder of Republic TV, was attacked by goons who were allegedly claimed to be carried out by Congress goons. Following this incident, certain hashtags like:

 #BarDancer, #SoniaGoonsAttackArnab, #RaGaKMKB, and #AntoniaMaino started trending on social media platforms namely Twitter. 

However, quite amusingly a basic google search of Italian Bar Dancer or #bardancer in India shows the picture of Sonia Gandhi at the top of the search page result which further opens up the Wikipedia page of Sonia Gandhi.

Approximately similar search results are collected by searching Bar Girl In India on Google.

Sonia Gandhi- A Public Figure

Sonia Gandhi is the former president of the Indian National Congress which has governed India for a long period of time post Independence. 

She started her political career in 1984 after the demise of her mother-in-law and was elected over Jitendra Prasad as the president of the Indian National Congress in 1997 after the demise of her husband.

Sonia Gandhi is an Italian-origin girl. She was working as a bar attender in the Varsity rooftop bar where she met her late husband Rajiv Gandhi in the mid-1960s, who was enrolled for an engineering degree at Trinity College, the University of Cambridge during that time. Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi later got married in 1968 and settled here in India and have two children, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi.

The images which showcase Sonia as a bar dancer upon searching “Italian Bar Dancer” or “Bar Dancer in India” on google are basically morphed using photoshop or other related applications. Some even have faced swapped with other Hollywood actresses like Marlyn Monroe and Reese Witherspoon. 

Sonia, on the other hand, was a bar attendee and not a bar dancer, and this bar was the very place where she met Rajiv Gandhi in the mid-1960s. 

This rubbishes the claims of Sonia Gandhi as a Bar Dancer. 

Why Does Google Show Sonia Gandhi Upon Searching “ Italian Bar Dancer” 

Not long ago did we hear about a similar incident in 2018 where US President Donald Trump was showed as the top results whenever someone searched ‘Idiot’ on Google search tab. This irked Trump and demanded an explanation from the Google CEO, Sundar Pichai. 

In his statement, Pichai stated that- 

“ Any time you type in a keyword, as Google we have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of [websites’] pages in our index. And we take the keyword and match it against their pages and rank them based on over 200 signals — things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it. And based on that, at any given time, we try to rank and find the best search results for that query.”

This also sums up the reason for showing Sonia Gandhi as its result upon searching “ Italian Bar Dancer” on the Google platform. The outspread of fake news has made Sonia top the search results of the phrase “Italian Bar Dancer” and has not been fixed yet by the Google team.
